HIV Drug Resistance Database fields and their meanings are as follows.

Field Name

Explanation

Gene

Region of the genome in which the mutation occurs. Protein affected by the mutation.

Wild Type AA

The "wild-type" amino acid normally found at a given position. Amino acid abbreviations are here.

AA Position

The position of the mutation expressed as number of amino acids from the start of the protein.

Mutant AA

The identity of the amino acid resulting from the mutation. Amino acid abbreviations are here.

Wild Type Codon

The "wild-type" codon normally found at this position.

Mutant Codon

The codon(s) resulting from the mutation.

DrugClass

The category of drug whose efficacy is affected by the mutation.

Compound

The name of the drug or compound. An index of compound names is here.

Drug Names

Other names used for the same compound; e.g, compound DMP-266 is also known as efavirenz and Sustiva.

In Vitro

Resistance effects have been observed in cloned virus or cell culture studies.

In Vivo

Resistance or cross-resistance effects have been observed in patients.

Select or Cross-Resist

How mutations were identified. Selected refers to mutations identified from patients on a specific drug therapy, or from in vitro passage of virus in increasing concentrations of a compound to select for resistance-conferring mutations. Cross-R means that virus with a mutation has decreased susceptibility to a compound that did not select for that mutation.

Comment

Comments, usually about synergistic effects of other mutations.
